Rebranding: My Story

When I first started my business, I gave it a very generic name: Kalysha Photography

My logo was very simple and to-the-point. It was clean and professional, and for a while, I was happy with it.

As time passed, I grew tired of this logo. My artistic and photographic skill was developing, and I was becoming more invested in maternity and newborn photography. Baby photography was my true passion: being able to capture those tiny little features and immortalise them forever in beautiful photographs was a gift that I could offer new parents who were so sleep deprived they could barely think straight.

I started thinking about what name I could give this growing passion. I wanted something cute, something that immediately shouted "baby!"; I wanted something that was meaningful and personal to me.

After mulling it over for a few days, I landed on baby elephants.

Growing up, I was always on the chubby side, and my Dad would call me his "elephant" (in jest, I'm sure!). When my boyfriend (now husband) found out about this tease, he was delighted! He started calling me his "Heffalump" to wind me up, and so I started calling him "Dumbo" in retaliation. These names soon became terms of endearment, and when we were on our honeymoon in Thailand, I got an elephant tattooed on the inside of my right wrist.

So it was settled: My business would be named after something was was both personal and meaningful to me.

I spent a couple of weeks designing my new logo, and TA-DA!!

Needless to say, I love my new branding - it encompasses everything I set out to achieve, and looks sleek and totally bad-ass!
